What is CropAlert?

CropAlert is your early warning system for when blackleg spore showers are likely to occur. This will allow you to minimize the risk of yield loss due to blackleg by making effective decisions, such as the tactical use of a foliar fungicide, before blackleg becomes a major problem in your canola crop. The basis of CropAlert builds on the well-established Blackleg Sporacle model, in collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, Western Australia (DPIRD). The Blackleg Sporacle model was developed through research undertaken by DPIRD with the Grains Research and Development Corporation. CropAlert uses daily temperature and rainfall inputs, sourced from BOM and Weatherzone in order to provide a seasonal estimate on the arrival of the first blackleg spore showers.

CropAlert from Bayer Crop Science helps growers and advisors manage fungal disease in canola. Understanding when risk of disease infection is high is important for a proactive disease control program in canola and CropAlert assists growers and advisors to do this.

The Sclerotinia Model

CropAlert for sclerotinia gives a disease incidence risk score for sclerotinia stem rot (sclerotinia) on an hourly basis and is also supported by a graph indicating the progression of the disease risk over the previous 3 days as well as a forecast of disease risk 48 hours in advance. The bar chart displayed when CropAlert is ran will give the user a breakdown of how many hours a certain location has spent in a period of "high disease risk".
